“Recently, the idea of building a ‘waste-free city’ has been fully publicized. What is a ‘waste-free city’? What are the district’s arrangements for creating a ‘waste-free city’?” In the afternoon of June 4, a unique activity of the June 5 Environmental Day was held in the Zhaobaoshan Sub-district Cultural Park. Resident representatives from the Chengdong Community and the working staff of the Zhenhai District Ecological Environment Sub-bureau had a dialogue centering on the theme of ecological civilization.

The Chengdong Community is a community with the brand of “green environmental protection”, and has the tradition of promoting the construction of grass-roots ecological civilization. Over the years, the Party Committee of the community has organically integrated “Red Party Building” and “Green Ecology”, carried out a large number of green environmental protection themed activities favored by the mass public, and made contributions to improve the concept of ecological civilization among community residents. Environmental protection public welfare activities, such as the “Blue Sky Log” of the Community Green Association and the Green Ribbon Environmental Protection Volunteer Team, and the supervision of coal dust control and so on have exerted a great impact.

At the activity, a relevant person in charge of the Zhenhai District Ecological Environment Sub-bureau awarded the license to the Chengdong Community for being an ecological civilization public observation station, and issued appointment letters to 10 observers. This is the first community ecological civilization public observation station in the Zhenhai District. The sub-bureau has also held an “Ecological Environment Lecture” for community residents. Five eco-environmental workers had a meeting with residents face to face, reporting the environmental situation, listening to suggestions of the people, and answering questions of common concern, such as “sources and prevention of air odor”, “effect of Five Water Treatment and next-step arrangement”, “supervision of illegal sewage discharge behaviors”, “measures for creating a waste-free city” and “construction of an ecological civilization construction pilot demonstration zone” and so on. A tour exhibition with the theme of “biodiversity conservation” was also held onsite.
